India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.59%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate, Oil & Gas and Power sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.59% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.68%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 2.24% or 193.60 points to trade at 8,835.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) added 1.63% or 36.15 points to end at 2,256.05 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) was up 1.43% or 34.40 points to 2,435.40 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Shriram Finance Ltd. (NS:SHMF), which fell 3.07% or 88.90 points to trade at 2,809.85 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 3.00% or 8.15 points to end at 263.18 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was down 2.37% or 6.80 points to 280.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which rose 1.87% to 2,260.55, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 1.55% to settle at 2,436.70 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 1.40% to close at 3,128.00.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.96% to 130.00 in late trade, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which lost 1.71% to settle at 292.40 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.64% to 320.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1709 to 510 and 168 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2599 fell and 1164 advanced, while 104 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.96% or 2.60 to 130.00.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.74% to 14.57.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.37% or 9.94 to $2,682.34 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $73.35 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.11% or 0.08 to trade at $76.24 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.06% to 85.87, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 88.54.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 108.96.
