    Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has revealed a substantial financial portfolio in his 2025 annual disclosure, reporting at least 3.1 million dollars across various cash holdings, retirement accounts, and cryptocurrency. The filing with the Office of Government Ethics offers a detailed glimpse into the finances of the former Fox News personality since taking office in January. While these documents typically provide asset values in broad ranges, one particular detail stands out: a single bank account now holds more than 1 million dollars, representing a significant jump from previous filings where similar accounts held far smaller sums.

    Beyond the liquid cash, the disclosure highlights several retirement vehicles totaling between 2.05 million and 4.35 million dollars. A large portion of this wealth is tied to rollover individual retirement accounts belonging to his wife, Jennifer Hegseth. The couple also maintains a modest position in bitcoin, valued anywhere from 16,000 to 65,000 dollars. Because the government requires reporting in wide brackets rather than exact figures, it remains unclear if Hegseth’s overall net worth has grown compared to his initial nomination papers filed last December.

    Since joining the administration, Hegseth has undergone a visible shift in how he manages his investments to steer clear of potential conflicts of interest. He offloaded shares in major defense contractors like Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin shortly after being confirmed and instead moved millions into exchange traded funds. These moves are common for incoming cabinet members seeking to avoid accusations that their official policy decisions might benefit their private portfolios.

    These financial revelations come at a turbulent time for the Secretary, who is currently navigating intense political pressure within his own party regarding the ongoing conflict with Iran. Adding to his complex financial picture are two significant mortgages on properties valued up to 5 million dollars each, including a recent loan on his primary residence featuring an interest rate of 8.5 percent.
